First of all, clarity in this context means being clear on what you want.
That’s all. That’s the clarity we’re going to be talking about often here.
Clarity in motherhood is not thinking about having children.
It is not about weighing the pros and cons of motherhood.
It is knowing you are in this now, and deciding on what next.
Let me first give you 3 benefits of having clarity;
Focus; when you have clarity, your focus becomes sharp as a knife.
You know where you are headed, but when the distraction comes, your clarity keeps your focused mind grounded.
It’s as though you cannot be easily tricked into things that don’t benefit you.
Keeps you moving; It will be difficult to get stuck when you’re clear on your goals.
Even when that happens, you are self-aware and in no time, get back on track.
Keeps you calm and confident; This is what I love most about clarity in motherhood. You know who you are, what you want, and how to get it.
That is very loud confidence in a calm way.
How then can you seek clarity in motherhood?
Create time for it
Time passes quickly in our busy mum life. If we don’t create time for certain things, it never gets done.
We carry on living and until we pause, the clarity you seek gets further away from you.
Identify what matters to you
The first thing that comes to mind? What is it you want to be clear about?
Where do you want your focus to be?
Why does this matter to me?
Must I commit to this?
How does it benefit me?
That’s my top 3 what, why, and how formula for identifying what matters in your life.
Experiment
You should try new things to know what works for you and what doesn’t.
Some mums function well in a busy over stimulating environment. Some others like me cannot look past the clutter on the kitchen counter which in turn affects their productivity.
It also happens some mums jump over the toys on the floor to get to the other side of the room. Some others are instantly suffocated by the mere sight of the toys scattered all over the place.
You can either be on one end or the other.
Apply the same principle to get the clarity you seek. Tweak where necessary, and try different ways and styles.
Journal
Before you use your favorite line, let me remind you of the first thing we’ve just talked about. You’ve got to create time for it.
I can confirm journaling is one of the fastest ways to get clarity in our busy daily mum life.
I find journaling a calm experience. It is having a good talk with your subconscious mind.
Go on and have a whole conversation with yourself in your world free of judgment.
Scribble the thoughts down as they come.
Empty your thoughts in the book and free up space in your head. There is this lightness that comes after freeing up space in your mind. It feels like you can breathe well again.
So go ahead and get a beautiful book, with a beautiful pen. Start. Go!
Ps: I bought my first-ever journal in October and didn’t write in it till December. Take baby steps, no pressure to buy now, and journal today.
Read books
“A well-read woman is a powerful creature” This is one of my favorite unknown quotes I love about reading.
I used to roll my eyes at articles I read suggesting I read books. Like…do you know how busy I am? And now I’ve become one of them also telling others to read.
I understand you are super busy at the moment, aren’t we all? You can pick up a little challenge, and read one page daily.
Read for 5mins daily. Try to incorporate reading what interests you into your daily routine.
It comes with a different kind of clarity.
Do one thing at a time
There is often a lot to unpack in our daily lives and that’s a recipe for overwhelm.
You need to learn to tone down the noise the best way you can, for your sake and your mental health.
Forget multi-tasking, and do it one at a time.
No pressure, this is your journey, your motherhood, your growth. Always remember that.
Spend more time with yourself
I agree this will be difficult because let’s face it, mum life.
You can’t even go to the bathroom in peace these days without your thoughts racing through your mind.
I hope no one bangs their head. Or lock their hands in the door.
It can be overwhelming worrying constantly for the little humans you need to keep safe and for this reason, you also need time alone for yourself.
Alone with your thoughts, in your world, breathe and relax.
Your alone time makes you feel seen and heard. It makes you feel cared for and when you care for yourself, you know what you need.
Ok, I sneakily added one more, forget the graphics. This is written in no exact order, start where you like. Don’t forget to remain kind to yourself as you go.
Which step would you like to try first?
Let me know in the comments.
